Biography
Eleanor Hill is a dynamic Australian violinist who has recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master of Arts, awarded with Distinction. Eleanor was a scholarship student at the Academy, studying with Professor Sophie Langdon. Her studies were also generously supported by the Australian Government being the recipient of an Arts Australia Career Development grant and the Lord Mayors Young and Emerging Artist Fellowship.
Eleanor has toured internationally with her music on several occasions, performing in notable venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Guangzhou Opera House in China and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In 2019, she was invited by the Australian Embassy to perform her own virtuosic arrangement of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ in Morocco for the Foundation Diplomatic Gala. It was televised live throughout Morocco, with the Princess of Morocco in attendance. In 2016 and 2019, Eleanor was a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, touring throughout Europe, China and Australia.
Eleanor completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of Queensland (UQ) with First Class Honours, studying with Professor Adam Chalabi. She was the recipient of three scholarships and also won all of UQ’s major string competitions. Eleanor was concertmaster of both the UQ Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and has represented the university in master classes with international artists. During her time in Brisbane, Eleanor performed regularly with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and was involved in many other freelance concerts and events.
At a young age she was named young virtuoso for the Tyalgum Music festival and again at the Lucas Parklands Festival. In 2016, Eleanor performed solo recitals in New York as part of the NYU Winter Music Course and in 2017 she performed with the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra across China. Eleanor is an avid Chamber Music performer. In 2018 Eleanor performed with the Southern Cross Soloists at the Bangalow Music Festival and was awarded first place in the Musica Viva Chamber competition, performing live on 4MBS radio. Eleanor has also led the orchestra and performed Chamber works at the Queensland Music Festival from 2015 - 2019.
Since moving to London, Eleanor has performed with the Orpheus Sinfonia, London Orion Orchestra and Resonate Chamber Orchestra. In 2020, she was also selected for the Berlin Opera Academy on full scholarship and the Hori Musiktage Festival in Switzerland. Eleanor is the 2nd violinist of the Calathea Quartet. Formed in 2021, they are an up-and-coming quartet that were recently awarded 1st place of the Historical Women's Composer Prize at the Royal Academy, 2nd place in the Wolfe Wolfinsohn String Quartet Prize and Semi-finalists in the Royal Over-Seas League Music competition. At the Academy, Eleanor was involved in the Royal Academy Chamber Orchestra, led by Lorenza Borrani and the Royal Academy Sainsbury Soloists led by Clio Gould. She also performed with the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Mark Elder and John Wilson. Eleanor was Associate Concertmaster of the Royal Academy Opera Orchestra in their production of Chérubin. Currently, Eleanor is a performer in the Thursford Christmas Musical. Based in Norfolk, it is the largest Christmas show in Europe.
Eleanor enjoys an active freelance career, involving eclectic performances of orchestral, chamber and solo varieties and teaching throughout schools in London. She currently performs on a Christoph Gotting Violin, generously on loan from the Royal Academy.

Eleanor has several years' experience teaching violin privately to students of various ages and ability. In June, Eleanor received her Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, granting her a professional qualification to teach music. She currently teaches in several schools and music services across London (Wandsworth, Hounslow, Southwark and Enfield services). She has experience teaching whole class violin and has experience teaching students with learning disabilities. Eleanor was a teachers assistant in several primary schools throughout London last year, so she consequently has experience managing behaviour and creating a good rapport with students.
Eleanor is a results driven and enthusiastic teacher, who offers a fun learning experience tailored to you. She can confidently prepare students for exams, auditions and concerts. Her approach to teaching focuses on setting achievable weekly learning goals and rewarding progress. Her teaching method also ensures a rounded musical education with additional music theory and ear training. Eleanor has the teaching experience, patience, vibrant personality and communication skills necessary to provide a positive learning environment for all students. She can teach at her home studio in Kennington/Walworth, online and can also travel directly to you!

Eleanor is an experienced and accomplished violinist as seen from her extensive performance history and education. She is comfortable playing in any environment, genre and style from light background music to feature solo entertainment spots.
